Theater Camp(2023)movie review:It definitely made me laugh, but I’m not sure if I would watch it again

“Theater Camp” (2023), the maiden directorial venture of Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman, presents itself as a charming and humorous musical comedy. The plot orbits around the quirky personnel of a dilapidated theater camp nestled in upstate New York. The film finds its roots in a short film of the same name by Lieberman, who also shares scriptwriting credits with Gordon and Noah Galvin.

The film intends to tickle the funny bone, but unfortunately, it falls short of this goal. It attempts to strike a chord with the audience, but it seems to have missed the mark. Its low-budget nature is evident, and this is likely to reflect in its box office performance. The documentary-style cinematography is noteworthy, albeit the theme, while promising, wasn’t executed as effectively as it could have been.

In summary, “Theater Camp” is offbeat and occasionally endearing. I wouldn’t necessarily make a special trip to watch it on the big screen, but I wouldn’t mind giving it another watch if I happen upon it on a streaming service.
